1/10 SCALE HYDRO RULES
INTENT
The purpose of the Fast Electric (FE) 1/10th Scale Hydroplane class is to provide the membership with an opportunity to race 1/10th scale models of Unlimited Hydroplanes, that replicate as closely as possible the real boats as they were originally raced
The FE 1/10th Scale Hydroplane rules are intended as a supplement to the NAMBA General Powerboat Rules of Competition, and to the NAMBA Scale Unlimited Hydroplane Competition rules. In case of a conflict, the FE 1/10th Scale Hydroplane rules shall prevail.
HULL REGISTRATION
Members are allowed two active hull registrations per class at any one time. Registration of hulls will be handled on a case-by-case basis by local clubs, and can be made at any time by mail or in person to the person responsible for registration with their club. Boat registration is on a first-come first-served basis. Registration will be active from January through December of a calendar year. All registrations expire on December 31, unless renewed by the respective member owning the registration.
A registered boat must race in at least one race during the racing season to maintain its registration. Any boat not raced at least once during a racing season will become unregistered and available for registration on a first-come first served basis for the following year.
BOAT APPEARANCE AND DESIGN
Boats are to be built to resemble the original boat in appearance as closely as possible. Boats are to race in their most recognizable form, including wings, engine or cowling, and graphics. A photograph of the real boat must be presented upon request to confirm the appearance.
If a Club Member desires to build and race a boat in any configuration other than "their most recognizable form" a variance will be required. The Member shall submit in writing the brief history of the boat in question including pictures and a description of why they want to race that particular boat to the Club. The Club will review the information and make a ruling as to the legality of the configuration.
HULL SPECIFICATIONS
All boats shall be models of past or present American Power Boat Association Unlimited Hydroplanes that are listed on the Scale Unlimited Hydroplane Master Hull Roster.
Boats are to be built on a scale of 1” of an inch equals 10” (1.2” = 1ft) of the actual boat.
The true scale dimensions of any 1/10th Scale Unlimited Hydroplane shall be derived from the Unlimited dimensions listed on the Scale Unlimited Hydroplane Master Hull Roster. Boats shall measure within the following tolerances of the true scale size, excluding appendages.
a. Overall length ……………………………………..+/- 1”
b. Beam ……………………………………………...+/- 10%
c. Maximum Depth ………………………………….+/- 10%
d. After plane length (three point design) …………...+/- 10%
e. Tunnel Width ……………………………………..+/- 10%
Boats shall be painted, configured, and detailed like the actual Unlimited (or Limited, if approved) as it ran on the water. The acquisition of documentation validating a paint scheme, cowling configuration, engine configuration, or other scale details shall be the responsibility of the boat’s owner. Photographs of the boat are an acceptable form of documentation.
Boats shall enter competition complete with cowlings(s) and driver(s). If any of the removable parts fall off the boat during competition, except as a result of a collision, that boat will be awarded no higher than sixth place points in that round upon completion of the heat. This penalization only affects the points that are awarded and not the finishing placement of the boatwhich incurred the infraction. The placement of and points awarded to other boats in the heat are not affected by this ruling.
The boat’s motor shall be concealed by either an engine cowl, dummy engine (Allison, Rolls, etc.), or both.
The number of props and rudders shall coincide with that of the original full sized Unlimited Hydroplane.
Outdrive units and outdrive motors(s) are prohibited unless the full sized boat after which the boat is being modeled had an outdrive or outdrive engine(s), in which case the model must be configured like the full sized boat.
The propeller drive dog may extend one drive dog length beyond the transom.
The boat bottom/sponson profile shall be the same general appearance as that of the full sized Unlimited hull it represents with the following exceptions:
a. Sponson riding surfaces may be modified.
b. Propeller shafts may be articulated.
c. Rudders and skid fins may be configured and located as desired.
d. Skid fin may be attached behind the sponson on all hulls placement at builders discretion.
MOTOR AND POWER SPECIFICATIONS
1. Power Specifications shall follow current NAMBA “P”-class specifications, with the exception of being limited to a single motor.
2. Current PSFEMBC 1/10th Scale rules. Power is limited to PSFEMBC P-Spec Power Specifications. 36mm dia.x 60mm length of motor can.
3. Summary: Any PSFEMBC legal 1/10th Scale powered by an SV27, BJ26, AQ UL1, Himax or other P-Spec approved motor, using NAMBA P-class Power Limits (Power Limits: 8.4 to 16.8 Volts nominal, any chemistry. Maximum of 2 packs in parallel. Maximum capacity of 10,000 mAh.)
